Seven Sphinx AC runners ran as guests at the first of this year’s Northbrook handicap races.
These races are all run over the same 5k course, usually on the first Wednesday of the month from April-September inclusive. The course heads north along Staircase Lane and Coundon Wedge in Allesley, making the first half mostly uphill. The second half is a lot faster, as you get the advantage of the downhill stretch down Brown’s Lane. The final quarter of a mile is pretty flat along Butt Lane and the final sprint finishes can dramatically alter the final finishing positions.
