Another wet night that has become the feature of Sphinx AC races this month did not deter the 34 hardy souls that turned out to run the 3rd race in this year’s summer handicap series. The wet conditions didn’t prevent another glut of personal best times for the course as 10 runners improved on previous times from Fiona Quinn taking a massive 8 minutes off her time from last year to Ashley Miles who improved his PB by 1 second. There were also 9 runners completing the course for the first time so setting their course best times. Estimating times proved to be as difficult for the runners as it was for [Richard] as handicapper with most estimates at least a minute over the actual time, however Pete Morgan managed to be closest running 14 seconds quicker than his predicted time.

The race was won by Amy Frank who led from start to finish to complete the course in 45:04, with Janine Miles in second place finishing in 46:04. With the ladies section taking 8 of the first 11 places Chris Tait crossed the line in a creditable 3rd place in a time of 37:49. For the third race in a row Ash recorded the fastest time of the night completing the course in 27:19 but this was well over a minute outside the course record that has stood since 2006. 2nd quickest run came from Ian Wilkinson who ran a course PB to finish in 29:01 with Paul Slatford 3rd fastest in 30:35, missing his course PB by 27 seconds.

Thanks to the marshals who stood out in the rain to make sure everyone got round safely as well as the ladies who waited at the finish to record times and numbers. The next race is on 18th July starting on the disused railway near Birdingbury.
