16 Sphinx AC runners made the trip to Foxton Locks, near Market Harborough for the 6th race of this year’s EMGP Series, equalling our best turn-out for Silverstone last month. As race routes go, this is as straightforward as they come; almost a perfect square with the downhill on the way out and the uphill on the way back plus a couple of laps of a field thrown in at the start and finish for good measure. A very humid atmosphere meant we were sweating even on the start line. Ashley Miles won yet another M40 prize, finishing 2nd in his category and 8th overall in 27:53 – astonishing, given the conditions. Ben Orme and Kevin Naughton finished a second apart and 4th and 5th respectively in the M55 category. Course PB’s for Fiona Quinn and Janine Miles and excellent debuts for Lizzie Fort and Rob Wheatley, proudly wearing the blue and gold for the first time in this series. Congratulations to Max Kmicic on a 5-mile PB – by a second! Commiserations to Wayne Broadbent who missed his own 5 mile PB – by a second! Finally thanks to drivers Andy McIntosh (again) and Fiona Quinn. Next race Weedon 10K next Tuesday.
