Sphinx AC were represented at the national XC championships in Nottingham, rubbing shoulders with Olympians!

Men’s captain, Mike Wall, kindly provided this write-up:
Conditions were great for the final XC event of the season which saw over 1600 men finishing the National Cross Country Championships. Unfortunately due to a couple of non-runners we were unable to field the required 6 to count to get a men’s team score but there were some good individual performances. It’s a once a year opportunity to pitch yourself in at a national level against a quality field in what was an extremely well run event. Despite the numbers involved, travel, parking and access to the club tent, start and finish area was all a breeze. The quality of the field is certainly shown when our own Ashley Miles came a very respectable 296th with only 6 minutes separating the first 300 runners. A special mention must go to Nick who finally took note and didn’t zap his energy prior to the race with an early morning bike ride as he has done previously. Consequently he came in a good 2 minutes ahead of me rather than eating my mud as in the last couple of XC races! Wayne also managed to jostle for the same piece of mud with GB triathlete Jonathon Brownlee. Unfortunately it wasn’t a jostle for position as Wayne was being lapped at the time but a nice tale to tell all the same! Well done to all the Sphinx men and ladies who ran today and thanks for the support on the way round.
