Training Details
We have a variety of training activities spread throughout the week.
Training Times
Beginners training 6:30pm at Cov & N Warwks club on Thursdays - try it out.
Training routes
There are multiple routes used during training, depending on time/day and ability of the participants.
Monday evening
The seniors meet at Lyng Hall school with a view to starting their run at 19:00. There is an optional strengthening and conditioning session in the school gym prior to this though, starting at 18:20.
The main route is only 2.1 miles and can be optionally followed up by a few laps of Lyng Hall's track.
Thursday evening
4.7 miles - out of the club, past the Forum, to Walsgrave Hospital, down Clifford Bridge Road to the Binley Arms then back to the club.
6.0 miles - out of the club, out to Binley, through Willenhall, then to Whitley, up Humber Road and back to club.
Sunday morning (aka "LSR", or "Long Sunday Run")
This isn't a run with a single route. It was introduced to help meet the needs of those training for marathons, half-marathons, 10 milers and anybody else wanting to up their stamina. The long run is open to allcomers and isn't a fast run. In good conditions, anticipate being out for at least 90 minutes.
The starters follow the same route initially, then after 45-60 minutes the decisions are made about whether to head back or to extend the run a bit further... then a bit further... and so on. Some of the runners head back, but some extend their run. So whilst we all start at the same time, we don't all follow the same route and smaller groups of runners will complete different routes of varying distances. A realistic minimum would be 10 miles but 17 miles have been covered by some of those training for the London Marathon.
Starting at 09:30, you can expect to be back at the club, showered and changed by midday - when most of the country is just getting dressed!
The routes that have been plotted so far are:
11.0 miles - out to Binley, to Tollbar Island, to Brandon, straight through Binley Woods then back to the club.
12.9 miles - as above, but with a diversion down Clifford Bridge Road, past the hospital then back to the club via Ansty Road.
14.6 miles - out past Coombe Abbey, to Brinklow, then down the Fosse way back to Brandon then back to the club. |
