Gold for Sophie

Gold for Sophie

Sphinx AC‘s Sophie Edge won the GOLD MEDAL in her category at the 2011 Pontevedra ETU Triathlon European Championships!

Her result can be seen here:

Sophie’s mum, Linda, said:

“[Sophie] got the under 19 GOLD medal – woop woop!! However, most of the competitors dropped out for some bizarre reason, so there wasn’t much competition. However, she still won it and her time was good, and she was pleased with the race. Out of the water she was 4th out of about 100 women, then the bike was tough as it was 10 k uphill and 10 down – so she had her brakes on for much of the downhill as she is still scared following her accident last year. Then the run – it was starting to heat up by now – albeit only just after 9 am, but she managed to complete the 5K in 23 minutes. That time still needs to come down a bit but is better than she was achieving earlier in the season.

All in all an excellent weekend.

WOOP WOOP indeed!

Let’s have a closer look at that medal!

It’s very gold, isn’t it?

If you click on the picture of the medal, a new window should open up with an enlarged version.

Sophie is living proof that normal people can achieve great things through determination and hard work. She’s a credit to the club and her family and she should be suitably proud of her fantastic achievement – we all certainly are.
