Coombe 8 course measured at 8.4 miles
A few of us ran the course of the 2011 Sphinx AC Coombe 8 over the weekend and it was measured at a whisker under 8.4 miles.
The conditions on Saturday were dry and bright but it was quite blowy. We were a bit stop-and-starty as we were recording where the mile markers should go and where all the turning points are. Our Garmin plot is here:
Forget soulless, boring runs on dual carriageways and through industrial estates – this is a course with real variety at a superb venue. The 2011 course is definitely the best course to date, partly due to the work that has been undertaken within the grounds of Coombe Park and partly down to the “Bergin Wiggles” that should surprise and delight all runners!
The 2011 Sphinx AC Coombe 8 is on Sunday 20 November – just three weeks away. Entries are being taken online, by post and on-the-day (subject to places being available). This is a “must-do” event for runners of all capabilities in the region and your entry fee covers entry to the race itself, car parking, hot soup and a roll, and a commemorative T-shirt.

Multi-terrain/trail shoes are probably a good idea; spikes are NOT recommended as there is a short stretch of tarmac and a wooden bridge to cross.
